MassHealth ACOs, MCOs and MBHP: Behavioral Health Routing

By George Ruan • October 9, 2026

As of October 9, 2026. Use the official MassHealth ACO and MCO list linked below, then check the member’s date-of-service enrollment. The MassHealth program name alone does not identify the behavioral health claim destination. Current MassHealth ACO and MCO list MassHealth eligibility verification instructions

The member’s service-date coverage determines the route: MBHP for its covered plans, the named administrator for other plans, or MassHealth for covered direct fee-for-service claims.

The current ACO and MCO list

The state list names the following partnership ACO plans. Check the linked list again when setting up a new payer route; this article is a dated snapshot rather than a member-enrollment determination. Current MassHealth ACO and MCO list

  • Fallon Health – Atrius Health Care Collaborative

  • Berkshire Fallon Health Collaborative

  • Fallon 365 Care

  • Be Healthy Partnership Plan

  • WellSense Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) Performance Network ACO

  • WellSense Community Alliance

  • WellSense Boston Children’s ACO

  • East Boston Neighborhood Health WellSense Alliance

  • WellSense Mercy Alliance

  • WellSense Signature Alliance

  • WellSense Southcoast Alliance

  • WellSense Care Alliance

  • Mass General Brigham Health Plan with Mass General Brigham ACO

  • Tufts Health Together with Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA)

  • Tufts Health Together with UMass Memorial Health

Under Primary Care ACOs, the list names Community Care Cooperative (C3) and Revere Health Choice. Under MCOs, it names WellSense Essential MCO. SCO, One Care and PACE coverage should be investigated through their own program and plan resources rather than this ACO/MCO list. Current MassHealth ACO and MCO list

When does behavioral health route to MBHP

MBHP is part of Carelon Behavioral Health. Its August 2026 town hall identifies MBHP behavioral health coverage for the PCC Plan, the Primary Care ACOs C3 and Revere Health Choice, and Health New England’s BeHealthy Partnership. BeHealthy is therefore an important partnership-ACO exception to a simple “ACO means no MBHP” rule. MBHP August 6, 2026 town hall

Why Carelon and MBHP are not interchangeable billing labels

The same presentation lists separate contracts, direct-entry portals and electronic payer IDs: MBHP BHOMA and Carelon BHOVO. Do not select an ID just from the parent-company name. The August FAQ says other Carelon plan billing varies by contract and line of business. MBHP August 6, 2026 town hall MBHP August 6, 2026 town hall FAQ

  1. Verify coverage for the service date. Read the POSC eligibility response, including the member’s managed-care enrollment. Save the dated result in your normal secure billing record. MassHealth eligibility verification instructions

  2. Confirm the behavioral health administrator. For a plan not identified above, ask that plan where the specific service is administered. Match the answer to the member’s coverage and your contract; do not assume every ACO uses MBHP.

  3. Check the claim route before sending. Confirm the payer ID or direct-entry portal with the actual administrator and your clearinghouse. Keep direct MassHealth, MBHP and other plan billing configurations distinct.

Compare the prior service-date result with the new one. Ask which administrator owns services before and after the change, whether authorizations transfer, and which contract covers the clinician. Resolve routing questions before copying a previous claim template.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all MassHealth ACO members use MBHP for therapy?

No. Confirm the exact plan and behavioral health administrator. MBHP’s August 2026 guidance specifically identifies PCC, C3, Revere and HNE BeHealthy coverage.

Is MBHP part of Carelon?

Yes. MBHP identifies Carelon Behavioral Health as its parent, while distinguishing MBHP billing from other Carelon plan billing.

Where should I check the current MassHealth plan names?

Use the official ACO/MCO list linked above and verify the member’s actual service-date enrollment in POSC.
