Georgia Families CMOs vs FFS: Therapist Credentialing

By George Ruan • October 9, 2026

Last reviewed: October 10, 2026.

Check the current plans on DCH’s official Georgia Families CMO list. As of October 10, 2026, it lists Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan. Start with that list and the member’s coverage for the service date when deciding which network to join.

For a therapist, the work has three parts: state Medicaid enrollment through GAMMIS, credential verification, and a contract with the CMO when you intend to see its members in network. Completing one part does not complete the others.

Separate Georgia Medicaid state enrollment through GAMMIS, credential verification through the centralized CVO and participation through each CMO’s contract.
Sections

GAMMIS enrollment establishes the state provider record

Use the official Enrollment Wizard for the state application. The correct provider category, location and approval matter for both individual clinicians and applicable billing groups. Our Georgia Medicaid therapist enrollment guide covers the license and specialty choices; our GAMMIS login guide covers portal access.

The centralized CVO verifies credentials

DCH’s centralized CVO guidance describes a shared credential-verification process for the Georgia Families CMOs. The verification decision is shared with the plans. That shared process can reduce repeated verification work, but it does not establish a contract, fee schedule or effective date with every plan.

DCH directs contracting questions to the CMOs. Ask each intended plan to confirm its participation process for your clinician, tax ID, billing entity and locations. Keep the response and the plan’s effective-date confirmation with the enrollment records.

FFS billing and CMO billing use different payer routes

Fee-for-service means the state payment route; a Georgia Families CMO administers the member’s managed-care coverage. Verify the member’s assignment on the date of service before choosing the route. Our GAMMIS eligibility walkthrough explains the coverage and managed-care panels, and our therapy claims and telehealth guide links the relevant claims resources.

For group practices, review the March 2026 Group/Billing Enrollment FAQ. It requires applicable billing-group enrollment and rendering affiliations. CareSource’s February 2026 notice also directs providers to keep billing and rendering records and taxonomies aligned. A CMO contract does not excuse incomplete state enrollment records.

Which Georgia Families CMOs are current?

What is happening with the Georgia Families procurement?

DCH’s Georgia Families Latest News page still shows an April 23, 2026 procurement update as its latest posted procurement notice when checked on October 10. That update says DCH will extend the existing three CMO contracts through June 30, 2027 pending a Notice of Award after the protest process.

The same page’s December 2024 Notice of Intent to Award names CareSource Georgia Co., Humana Employers Health Plan of Georgia Inc., Molina Healthcare of Georgia Inc. and UnitedHealthcare of Georgia Inc. as apparent successful offerors. Those names describe the procurement outcome at that stage; they do not replace the current live CMO list. The page also identifies UnitedHealthcare as the apparent Georgia Families 360 awardee.

Before acting on a transition announcement, recheck both official DCH pages. A procurement selection does not tell you a member’s current payer or establish your contract’s start date. We are not treating July 2027 as a confirmed new-plan launch date.

What to confirm before scheduling the first visit

  1. State enrollment: approval and the relevant individual, billing-group and service-location records.

  2. CMO participation: the intended plan has confirmed the practitioner, group, location and effective date.

  3. Member coverage: the date of service, managed-care assignment and benefit requirements have been checked.

  4. Maintenance: the practice knows which records are due for GAMMIS revalidation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the current Georgia Families CMOs?

As checked October 10, 2026, DCH’s current list names Amerigroup Community Care, CareSource and Peach State Health Plan. Verify a member’s assignment for the actual service date before choosing a claims route.

Is Georgia Medicaid enrollment the same as CMO credentialing?

No. GAMMIS enrollment establishes the state provider record. Georgia’s centralized CVO verifies credentials and shares its decision with the CMOs. Contracting and participation effective dates must still be confirmed with the individual plans.

Have Humana, Molina and UnitedHealthcare replaced the current Georgia Families plans?

They appear among the apparent successful offerors in the December 2024 Notice of Intent to Award. As checked October 10, 2026, DCH’s live CMO list still shows Amerigroup, CareSource and Peach State. The latest posted procurement update, April 23, 2026, says DCH will extend those contracts through June 30, 2027 pending award.

Does FFS enrollment let me bill a CMO’s members in network?

It does not establish an in-network CMO contract. Confirm plan participation and effective dates, then verify each member’s service-date assignment and benefit requirements.
