UHC Community Plan Maryland: Optum Pay EFT
By George Ruan • October 9, 2026
As of October 9, 2026. Start with UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Maryland’s claims and payments page. It names Optum Pay for electronic payments. Keep the state, benefit and claim administrator in view before changing EFT enrollment.

What the Maryland plan confirms
The Maryland page lists ACH/direct deposit and virtual-card payments through Optum Pay. It also identifies the UnitedHealthcare Provider Portal for claim work. That confirms the payment route described by this medical plan; it does not establish every Community Plan state or every behavioral-health claim route.
For therapy claims, verify the responsible benefit administrator
Before using a medical-plan payment guide for therapy, compare the member card, authorization, claim acknowledgment and remittance. Ask the plan which organization administers that benefit and issues the payment. A payment platform enrollment cannot resolve a claim sent to the wrong administrator.
If the payment is handled through Optum Behavioral Health, use its Provider Express/Optum Pay payment guide. Do not use a medical-plan EFT page as proof that a behavioral carve-out pays through the same account.
Set up the verified Optum Pay route
Identify the legal billing entity and Maryland payment stream from the remittance.
Open Optum’s enrollment instructions and select the practice’s intended payment method in the public application.
Check whether the TIN already has an enrollment before creating a second one. Confirm that the authorized practice administrator can manage the relevant record.
Review Basic/Premium and any outside-biller costs in the Optum Pay fee guide before accepting terms.
After approval, verify one payment’s bank destination and its matching remittance. Preserve the claim-payment trace for follow-up.
Select the practice enrollment classification
For an Optum Pay practice enrollment, select “I am enrolling as a Healthcare Organization.” A third-party billing service uses the other classification. Select direct deposit for the ACH enrollment
For ACH, select “I would like to enroll in direct deposit (ACH) only.” This payment choice is separate from portal access pricing. Check the current payer eligibility and Premium terms before completing enrollment; the guide’s older feature list does not establish today’s Basic or biller-access benefits. Where to get the remittance
Maryland’s payment page says provider remittance advice can be accessed through Document Library, EDI or API. Decide which route your biller actually uses. Finding a PRA on a portal is not proof that a clearinghouse delivered an 835 file to the posting system.
If the payment arrived as a card or has a fee
Read the issuer and instructions on that payment. Check your processor’s rate before redeeming a card. If the charge is a portal invoice, review the subscribed access level instead. Keep claim adjustments separate from payment-service charges when reconciling the net amount.
Use UHC’s current electronic payment FAQ for its card/ACH instructions and exceptions. Ask support about the specific payment rather than assuming all cards can be reissued the same way.
