Which UnitedHealthcare payments use Optum Pay?
UHC’s claims and payments page identifies Optum Pay as the service for ACH/direct deposit and virtual cards. Use the payer and product on the remittance to confirm that this route applies to your payment. A UHC logo on the member card is not enough to identify a delegated administrator.
Choose ACH and review the portal fee
UHC says Basic ACH portal access is free and Premium costs 0.5%. Virtual-card merchant charges depend on your processor. Its payment FAQ explains these options. Compare any paid features with the Basic/Premium fee guide before agreeing to a subscription.
UnitedHealthcare EFT enrollment checklist
Use the Optum enrollment page to reach the official application.
Gather the practice’s correct TIN, organization details and authorized contact. Prepare the bank account documents under the same legal entity.
Select ACH direct deposit using the official enrollment selector. Review the subscription selection separately.
Keep the confirmation and any follow-up request. Have an authorized practice contact respond to questions about banking documents.
After activation, identify a specific payment trace, match the deposit to the remittance and confirm where your biller receives the payment detail.
Select the practice enrollment classification
For an Optum Pay practice enrollment, select “I am enrolling as a Healthcare Organization.” A third-party billing service uses the other classification. Select direct deposit for the ACH enrollment
For ACH, select “I would like to enroll in direct deposit (ACH) only.” This payment choice is separate from portal access pricing. Check the current payer eligibility and Premium terms before completing enrollment; the guide’s older feature list does not establish today’s Basic or biller-access benefits. How long does UHC ACH enrollment take?
UHC estimates about 10 business days and says documentation questions can keep an application pending until you respond. See the ACH application FAQ. Use that as an estimate, not a promised deposit date. If the application is pending, resolve the request before submitting another enrollment.
Why are virtual cards still arriving after I enrolled?
UHC says cards already in process cannot be changed to ACH. For a card received before ACH activation, its instructions allow calling the number on the card statement to request a paper check. See UHC’s in-process card guidance. This is UHC-specific; do not extend it to every Optum payer.
Check whether the card is unredeemed before requesting replacement. Keep its payment reference in the follow-up so the practice does not collect the same payment twice. Future ACH enrollment and the outstanding card should be tracked separately.
Remittance access is a separate part of enrollment
The 2026 administrative guide, page 132 describes PRA access in Optum Pay and the UHC Document Library. Confirm the source your posting workflow uses instead of assuming a bank deposit means the ERA file reached your EHR.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does UHC EFT enrollment submit my claims?
No. Confirm claim submission, payment delivery and remittance retrieval separately.
Can I turn an existing UHC virtual card into an ACH deposit?
UHC says VCPs already in process cannot be changed to ACH. Follow the current instructions for that payment and use ACH enrollment for future payments.
Does a pending EFT application guarantee the next claim will be ACH?
No. Resolve enrollment follow-up requests and verify activation, then check the actual payment route.
