Health First Colorado Enrollment for Therapists

By George Ruan • October 9, 2026

Updated October 9, 2026.

For Health First Colorado enrollment, identify both the clinician’s provider type and how the practice will bill. Begin at the public Provider Enrollment entry; portal registration and RAE network participation are separate milestones. This guide is for licensed outpatient therapists and psychologists, with sources checked October 9, 2026. Official Provider Enrollment entry.

If you need an existing enrollment number or start date, use the provider-ID and effective-date guide rather than submitting another application.

LPC, LCSW and LMFT versus psychologist enrollment

HCPF’s published provider-type directory places LPCs, LCSWs and LMFTs under Licensed Behavioral Health Clinician, PT 38. Licensed Psychologist is PT 37. Match the actual qualifying license and taxonomy; do not select psychologist merely because the practice provides psychotherapy. Find Your Provider Type.

Choose individual within a group or billing individual

The directory distinguishes Individual within a Group, where the group bills, from Billing Individual, where the clinician bills directly. It also lists an Ordering, Prescribing, Referring route; that is not a substitute for an enrollment intended to bill treatment. Provider and enrollment types.

  • Whose legal entity will appear as the billing provider?

  • Which enrolled clinician will be the rendering provider?

  • Which service location and taxonomy match the work?

  • Does the record need an affiliation with an enrolled group?

Use those questions to organize the application before entering it. The state enrollment manual is the official detailed reference; the correct provider-type requirements control the attachments.

Prepare the right documents for the chosen enrollment

The licensed-clinician directory requires the professional license and malpractice/liability information. For a billing individual, it additionally lists a signed recent W-9 and a qualifying voided check or bank letter. Follow the specific checklist rather than assuming a rendering-only clinician needs every payment attachment. License-specific attachment requirements.

A useful preparation checklist is to reconcile legal name, NPI, taxonomy, license, contact email, location and intended billing relationship across the materials. Resolve inconsistent information before submission; this is an organizational recommendation, not a promise about processing time.

Groups and individual affiliations need separate attention

For behavioral-health-only groups, read the existing Colorado PT 77 group guide. It covers the group transition; this article focuses on the individual’s enrollment decision.

HCPF’s group requirements call for separately enrolled rendering professionals and the applicable group affiliation. Do not interpret a group’s approval as approval of every clinician joining it. State group and individual requirements.

Track the clinician, billing organization and affiliation dates separately. The existing effective-date article explains why the individual enrollment date and group-affiliation date answer different questions.

State enrollment does not create a RAE contract

Colorado Access maintains a separate credentialing process for licensed therapists and psychologists. Completing a state application does not itself establish that plan’s effective network participation. Colorado Access credentialing policy.

Use the current RAE and FFS participation guide to find the behavioral health administrator. Ask that administrator to confirm the billing entity, rendering clinician, location and effective participation before treating a portal account as evidence of billability.

Keep state and plan records aligned

CCHA tells providers to maintain information with both the state interChange and CCHA. A state address or affiliation update should not be assumed to update the plan’s record automatically. CCHA provider information updates.
