Can an associate or intern see your WellSense clients?
The reviewed Carelon Massachusetts addendum cannot establish a current WellSense hiring approval by itself. WellSense now administers the affected behavioral-health benefits directly for the service periods below. A new associate, unlicensed graduate or student placement needs the current WellSense product and participation requirements checked before the practice counts those appointments as reimbursable.
The retained addendum contains a WellSense group/facility supervised-clinician provision, but retaining that text is not evidence that Carelon still administers current outpatient services. This guide does not infer that WellSense prohibits supervised care. It identifies why a historical Carelon permission does not settle a current WellSense caseload.

Match the administrator to the service date
WellSense’s current table directs New Hampshire Medicaid claims for services on or after December 1, 2025 to WellSense; earlier dates go to Carelon. For all other Massachusetts and New Hampshire products, January 1, 2026 is the corresponding transition date. The page expressly excepts inpatient claims, so do not apply its outpatient table indiscriminately to an inpatient stay.
The public page links current WellSense behavioral-health policies and claim resources. Use that current authority and the actual member plan when asking about a proposed hire. A clearinghouse payer ID or a practice’s older Carelon relationship does not replace that determination.

Separate Fallon’s documented facility pathway
The same Carelon addendum describes a Fallon Massachusetts pathway for license-eligible clinicians working in participating behavioral-health facilities after completing educational requirements, while accumulating hours under qualified regular supervision. That affirmative facility provision does not establish permission for every private group or a student still completing the qualifying degree.
The detailed Fallon hiring guide separates its qualification and roster questions from WellSense’s changed administration. A practice accepting both cards needs two determinations, rather than copying an old Carelon setup across both benefits.

Before promising a WellSense caseload
For the proposed clinician, record the actual credential or registration, completed education, student placement if any, service state and intended practice setting. Identify the current member product and participating group or facility agreement. Ask whether that specific category can furnish covered services, whether advance enrollment or supervision approval is required, and whose identity belongs on the claim.
Those are recommended questions for resolving the current evidence gap, not assertions that WellSense mandates a particular unverified roster, modifier or supervisor loop. Preserve the answer and effective date before assigning clients. When the clinician gains a new license or changes settings, reassess the arrangement instead of carrying forward the old assumption.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does an old Carelon WellSense provision establish current associate billing?
No. Establish the current WellSense product, agreement and clinician eligibility for the relevant service date; the retained addendum alone is insufficient.
Does this mean WellSense does not cover supervised clinicians?
No. Current clinician-category eligibility remains unestablished by the reviewed transition materials. An evidence gap is not a prohibition.
Does the claims transition apply to every inpatient claim?
The current WellSense table expressly excludes inpatient claims. Resolve the applicable inpatient arrangement separately.
