CAQH Directory Management Email: Do I Need to Reattest?

By George Ruan • October 7, 2026

Last reviewed: October 7, 2026.

No. The “CAQH Directory Management – Ensure your directory listings are accurate” email asks you to confirm your practice locations, not to reattest the whole profile. Log in, update any location that changed, click No Change on each location that did not, and save. CAQH’s email says confirmed location data goes to health plans when you save.

That is why the email can arrive right after you reattested: your profile attestation and each location’s confirmation are tracked separately. A fresh attestation date does not clear a location reminder.

Why these emails keep coming

CAQH’s email ties the outreach to directory-accuracy rules: under the No Surprises Act, plans must verify directory information every 90 days and remove providers they cannot verify, and providers must report changes promptly. DataSpring’s directory and attestation resources describe quarterly directory outreach alongside the usual 120-day attestation cycle (180 days for Illinois providers). The Directory Management issue brief explains that reminders start before a location’s 90-day confirmation window runs out.

Some plans lean on this directly. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, for example, tells participating providers to verify and attest their directory information through CAQH every 90 days, even when nothing has changed. If a plan you work with sets a rule like that, keep your profile attestation current as well; the location email alone does not cover it.

What to check on each location

  • Is it still real? Confirm the clinician actually works there and that the practice affiliation is current. Do not click No Change on a former office.

  • Virtual only or not? CAQH has a virtual-only option for a location. Checking it removes the physical address from what plans receive, so use it only if you never see clients in person there.

  • Contact and availability. Phone, scheduling contact, hours, and accepting-new-patients status should lead a patient to the right place.

  • Services. Specialties and telehealth details should match what this clinician offers at this location.

If you change a name or specialty, the Provider User Guide v46 notes that an Attest to Confirm indicator can appear, and that one does require profile attestation. Saving the edit alone can leave it open.

Make sure it actually stuck

Go back to the location list and confirm each location’s confirmation date updated and the alert cleared. If it did not, note the exact message and contact CAQH support. When a biller manages the profile, a forwarded reminder is usually all they need: at Bomi we confirm the location and reply once it is done.

When the payer’s directory is still wrong

CAQH showing the right address proves CAQH published it, not that each plan loaded it. Check the plan’s own directory for the right product, clinician, location, and phone number. If it is still wrong, use that plan’s provider-data channel, mention the date you confirmed CAQH, and ask whether it needs its own update form. A correct listing still is not written confirmation of network participation.

If a payer says it cannot retrieve your profile at all, see CAQH attested but the payer cannot access it. If you moved, see which payers still need your new address.

Frequently Asked Questions

I just reattested. Why did I get this email?

Location confirmation is tracked separately from profile attestation. The reminder is about your practice locations, and it clears when each one is updated or marked No Change and saved.

Nothing changed. What do I click?

Click No Change for every practice location in the list, then save. Skipping a location leaves that reminder open.

Does confirming my locations renew my contracts?

No. It only refreshes directory data. License renewals, recredentialing, and contracts run on their own schedules.
