Can Licensed Associates Bill Molina Apple Health?

By Bomi Health • September 8, 2026

Policy research reviewed October 17, 2026. This hiring guide separates a documented pathway from the conditions still to confirm for your clinician and member benefit.

There is a state licensed-associate pathway

Washington HCA expressly added licensed mental-health associates to the Part I mental-health framework. Its associate notice requires the clinician’s own NPI as a servicing provider under a facility or clinic in ProviderOne. This supports a concrete hiring option for an employer with the appropriate enrolled setting.

That is not independent solo associate billing. It also does not establish Molina’s acceptance of every associate or prove that a degree without the licensed-associate credential fits the same route. Obtain the actual credential and affiliation before assigning Apple Health visits.

Verify the Molina product on the member’s coverage

The assigned Molina Washington destination covers commercial, Medicare and Medicaid programs. Its routing identity alone cannot select Apple Health coverage or the applicable mental-health benefit. Keep the member’s actual product and the employer’s participation record with the hiring decision.

Molina’s public provider resources distinguish its lines of business. The reviewed links did not establish a current associate-specific contract, roster, supervisor-field or telehealth directive; the indexed Apple Health manual URL redirected to a missing page. That is a documented access/contract gap, not a prohibition on associates.

Part I and Part II need different claim setups

For the documented Part I associate arrangement, affiliate the individual servicing NPI under the enrolled clinic/facility. Use the current October 2026 taxonomy table, which distinguishes Medicaid-only associate claims from dual-coverage handling. Do not apply a historical transition notice as if it controls every current claim.

Part II specialized mental-health agency services instead use the clinic NPI and clinic taxonomy, with TG first and separate claims. The current guide prohibits the individual servicing NPI in that lane. Copying Part I’s own-servicing identity into Part II can therefore produce the wrong claim even when the same employer provides both kinds of service.

Do not substitute a student or bare graduate for an associate

The cited affirmative state pathway is for licensed associates. A pre-degree student has not established eligibility merely by entering a clinic, and a post-degree unlicensed graduate has not established eligibility merely by completing a degree. Any different program role needs its own qualifications and authority.

A practice comparing applicants should therefore distinguish an already licensed associate from someone still seeking that credential. The expected payer participation and claims work differ even if both applicants are described informally as associates.

Arrange the remaining plan conditions before scheduling

Confirm active credential, ProviderOne affiliation, enrolled clinic/facility and Molina acceptance of the specific clinician/relationship. Resolve the actual Part I or Part II service lane and current taxonomy before configuring claims.

Obtain Molina-specific supervision, documentation and proposed telehealth requirements. No mandatory extra supervisor loop was established by the reviewed material. The state pathway remains useful evidence while the plan’s exact participation and filing conditions are completed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does every Molina associate visit use the individual servicing NPI?

No. The state Part I associate pathway uses that affiliated servicing identity; Part II uses a clinic-only identity and prohibits the individual servicing NPI. Confirm the actual service lane and Molina arrangement.

Which product and setting does this hiring answer cover?

Molina Washington Apple Health Medicaid only after product confirmation. The assigned payer destination also covers commercial and Medicare. Part I facility-affiliated associate services and Part II specialized agency services are distinct lanes.
