TL;DR: use your own login, and give your biller their own

Register your own IMPA login. Your biller registers their own login first; the group administrator then adds it and grants the needed application role and NPI access. IMPA is not a single login for every Medicaid task. official guide.

Who needs their own IMPA login

Each person registers with their own email. A group owner cannot create another person’s IMPA login. The group administrator adds an existing username to the group and assigns application roles and NPI permissions. The Groups guide supports access through multiple Tax ID or NPI groups. official guide.

Before you create access

Identify the practice group and the application the biller actually needs. For remittance advice, check both the Remittance Advice role and the authorized NPIs. Signing in successfully does not establish those group permissions. official guide.

Create or use your IMPA account

Choose the account-registration option on IMPA and complete your own user and email information. Use the Registration Guide for security questions and sign-in recovery. Once the account exists, ask the group administrator to link it to the correct group. official guide.

What your login opens: IMPA application roles and NPI permissions

A group administrator assigns application roles and NPI access. For remittance advice, the Remittance Advice User role and the right NPIs both matter; other applications have their own roles. official guide.

Add your biller: group user, roles and NPIs

The group administrator opens Users and New, enters the biller’s existing username, and chooses Insert. Select the application roles, such as Remittance Advice User, then authorize the appropriate NPIs. Review the resulting user entry. Never share your own password to work around a missing group or role. official guide.

Login errors, forgotten IDs and missing access

Use Forgot Password or Forgot Username on the IMPA sign-in form. The Registration Guide explains the associated recovery and security-question steps. If sign-in works but remittance advice is missing, have the group administrator check application roles and NPI authorization. official guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Iowa Medicaid IMPA login?

Use secureapp.dhs.state.ia.us/impa/. Iowa HHS calls it Iowa Medicaid Portal Access; older guides use Iowa Medicaid Portal Application.

Can an IMPA group owner create my biller’s login?

No. The biller registers their own account first. The group administrator then adds the existing username and assigns roles and NPI access.

Why can I log in to IMPA but not see remittance advice?

The group administrator should check the Remittance Advice role and the NPIs authorized for your user. A working login alone does not grant application access.
