Does LifeWise Washington Allow Associate Therapist Billing?
By George Ruan • October 30, 2026
No for the associate-therapist route described in LifeWise’s behavioral-health guidance. LifeWise requires credentialing before treating members and says it does not credential associate-level providers.
Sections
Whose NPI belongs on the therapy claim?
The actual treating clinician must be identified as both rendering and servicing provider. Naming an independently licensed supervisor does not satisfy that instruction when an associate performed the psychotherapy.
Does the LABA exception cover associate therapists?
No. The page separately permits licensed assistant behavior analysts to bill ABA services through their supervising licensed behavior analyst. That is a distinct service and credential pathway, not permission for associate counseling or social-work psychotherapy.
What about an unlicensed student?
The page does not establish a student psychotherapy exception. A supervising therapist’s participation alone does not establish the student’s eligibility.
Scope and date
