Does Share HealthCare Share Supervised Therapy Bills?
By Bomi Health • October 30, 2026
No under the reviewed Share HealthCare member-handbook provision: mental-health, psychiatric and psychological costs are not qualified for sharing. Having a licensed supervisor does not override that exclusion. Share HealthCare is a healthcare sharing ministry, not an insurance company.
Sections
Why does the licensed-provider language not authorize therapy bills?
Section VI.A generally describes eligible medical expenses as medically necessary care provided by, or under the direction of, licensed providers. But it expressly makes that general rule subject to excluded services. Section VI.B.23 then excludes mental-health, psychiatric, psychological, spiritual and emotional-healing costs. The broad supervision language cannot be read by itself as a psychotherapy payment policy.
Is this a denial limited to students or associates?
No. The cited exclusion is about the kind of expense, not a named therapist credential. The handbook does not create a separate exception for a student, graduate, associate, independently licensed therapist or supervisor. It therefore does not answer which provisional licenses may lawfully practice in a particular state.
Does using the supervisor’s NPI make a difference?
The reviewed provision supplies no supervisor-NPI or modifier exception to the excluded mental-health expenses. Its general references to standard medical billing forms do not authorize substituting another clinician’s identity. Do not treat an accepted form or a generic licensed-provider definition as proof that the service qualifies for sharing.
Which handbook is this based on?
The currently published Member Handbook is marked revised October 24, 2025. This article addresses that handbook’s medical-expense rules, not every sharing organization or a similarly named insurance product. The handbook also describes additional voluntary charitable gifts toward needs that are ineligible for ordinary sharing. That possibility is not a psychotherapy benefit or a promise that a bill will be funded. Share HealthCare describes sharing as voluntary and states that payment is not guaranteed; members remain responsible for unpaid bills.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Share HealthCare share a counseling bill under a supervisor?
The reviewed handbook excludes mental-health costs and supplies no supervisor exception. The general under-the-direction-of-a-licensed-provider language remains subject to that service exclusion.
Does the handbook say associates cannot practice?
No. The cited rule concerns sharing eligibility for mental-health expenses. It does not decide state licensure or supervision authority.
Is Share HealthCare an insurer?
No. Its handbook identifies a healthcare sharing ministry and says payment of medical bills is not guaranteed.
