Does Medi-Share Complete Share Supervised Psychotherapy Bills?
By George Ruan • October 30, 2026
Medi-Share Complete’s current guidelines do not make counseling or psychotherapy bills eligible for sharing. Billing a session under a licensed supervisor does not create an exception in the reviewed provisions. This is a benefit-level limitation, not a rule that singles out associate therapists: the guidelines exclude those services without offering a supervised-clinician pathway.
Medi-Share is a healthcare sharing ministry, not health insurance. This answer concerns Medi-Share Complete’s guidelines updated September 29, 2026. It should not be applied automatically to the separate Medi-Share 65+ program or to another sharing ministry.
Sections
What do the current guidelines say?
Section VI.I excludes counseling and psychotherapy from medical-bill sharing. Section VI.J also describes behavioral and mental-health services that are ineligible. These provisions matter before the therapist’s license level or supervision arrangement is considered. They do not supply a modifier or supervisor-NPI billing route that makes an excluded psychotherapy bill eligible.
Is any mental-health support available?
The same guidelines preserve access to mental-health counseling by phone or video through the Member Center. That access is distinct from having an outside practice submit a psychotherapy bill for sharing. Do not treat the Member Center provision as permission for any independently selected therapist, student or associate to bill the program.
What is the psychiatric or primary-care evaluation exception?
Section VI.I permits psychiatric or primary-care evaluation, associated laboratory testing and medication for mental illness related to an eligible medical condition, for six months per new condition. The passage immediately distinguishes counseling and psychotherapy as ineligible. This limited evaluation provision does not turn an ongoing psychotherapy course into a shareable service, and it does not waive the other eligibility rules.
Does a fully licensed supervisor change the answer?
The reviewed Complete guidelines contain no supervision exception to this psychotherapy exclusion. Changing the name or NPI on a claim is not a substitute for an eligible service. Nor does this article determine which clinicians may provide the separate Member Center counseling service; its staffing and enrollment requirements are not established by the sharing provisions.
Which document controls?
The guidelines state that the version current when services occur governs, rather than the version in effect when a member joined. The current guidelines page identifies the Complete update separately from the 65+ materials. Check the applicable version and program before treating this answer as relevant to a particular member.

Frequently Asked Questions

The reviewed Medi-Share Complete guidelines exclude counseling and psychotherapy and do not provide a supervisor-billing exception.
Does Medi-Share offer any counseling access?
The guidelines identify phone or video mental-health counseling through the Member Center. That access is separate from sharing an outside practice’s psychotherapy bill.
Are all psychiatric services excluded?
The guidelines preserve a limited psychiatric or primary-care evaluation, laboratory and medication provision for mental illness related to an eligible medical condition. It does not include counseling or psychotherapy.
