Does Christian Health Aid Share Supervised Psychotherapy?
By Bomi Health • October 30, 2026
Christian Health Aid can consider individual and family psychotherapy bills for sharing under its 2026 Member Guidelines. That is not a blanket yes to supervised or prelicensed therapy: the same guidelines exclude unlicensed services and group psychotherapy. They do not define which associate licenses qualify or authorize billing a trainee’s work under a supervisor’s NPI. Christian Health Aid is a health care sharing ministry, not health insurance.

Which mental-health services are shareable?
Printed page 33 lists individual and family psychotherapy among the mental-health services eligible for sharing consideration. Psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, office visits and medication management are also listed. Eligibility for consideration is not a guarantee of payment: the member’s program, annual responsibility, sharing limits and other applicable guidelines still govern.
What does the exclusion mean for an associate or student?
Printed page 39 lists “Unlicensed Services” as non-shareable. The reviewed guidelines do not define that phrase by profession or state, identify particular provisional licenses, or explain whether a student’s work within a licensed organization qualifies. A licensed associate and an unlicensed student are not interchangeable categories. The source supports reporting the exclusion as written; it does not support declaring every supervised clinician eligible or every associate ineligible.
For a practice considering a particular clinician, the unresolved question is whether CHA treats that clinician’s actual state credential, service and supervision arrangement as an eligible service. The psychotherapy benefit alone does not settle that question. A general rule allowing clinical supervision under state law likewise does not establish that CHA will share the expense.
Is group psychotherapy treated the same way?
No. Printed page 38 separately excludes group psychotherapy, along with hypnotherapy, narcosynthesis, psychoanalysis and therapeutic magnetic stimulation. Printed page 39 also excludes substance-abuse prevention, counseling and treatment. Do not extend the individual-and-family psychotherapy listing to these excluded services merely because a licensed supervisor is involved.
Can the practice submit the bill under the supervisor?
The current provider page accepts ordinary professional or institutional medical-bill forms and identifies payer ID 98628. It does not supply a supervisee-specific rendering-NPI instruction, modifier or supervisor substitution exception. Acceptance of a form or electronic transaction is not approval of the clinician or service. Keep the person who performed the treatment distinct from the person supervising it.
What other conditions matter?
Membership is limited to the community and household categories described in the guidelines. Waiting periods and pre-existing-condition rules may apply. The guidelines in effect on the service date control, and bills are considered after services occur. Other available coverage generally must be used first, with the stated exception for state aid. The member’s annual responsibility and program limits remain relevant.
CHA says it has no primary provider network and its provider page says procedures do not require precertification or prior authorization. Those administrative statements do not remove the sharing exclusions. Contributions are voluntary, sharing is not guaranteed, and members remain personally responsible for their medical bills.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Christian Health Aid share psychotherapy expenses?
Its 2026 guidelines list individual and family psychotherapy for sharing consideration, subject to membership and program conditions. Group psychotherapy and unlicensed services are separately excluded; payment is not guaranteed.
Can an associate therapist bill Christian Health Aid under a supervisor?
The reviewed guidelines do not establish a named associate-license pathway or supervisor-NPI exception. The unlicensed-services exclusion must be reconciled with the clinician’s actual credential and service, without treating all associates as unlicensed.
Is Christian Health Aid health insurance?
No. It is a health care sharing ministry. Sharing is voluntary and members remain responsible for their medical bills.
