Can Associate Therapists Enroll With Verda in Arizona and Texas?
By Bomi Health • October 30, 2026
For Verda Health Plan of Arizona and Verda Health Plan of Texas, a therapist who must practice under direction or supervision does not meet the stated independent-practice standard for individual network credentialing. Both plans currently link Verda Healthcare’s January 2026 Medicare Advantage provider manual. Its counselor category is Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). This enrollment requirement does not establish whether a specific supervised therapy service can be reimbursed through another arrangement.

Which therapist licenses does Verda list?
The Arizona and Texas provider-manual pages link the same January 2026 Verda Healthcare manual. Printed page 10 says individual providers must have state authority to practice independently, without direction or supervision. Its examples include clinical psychologists (PhD), Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) and Licensed Marriage Family Therapists (LMFTs).
A listed credential is not an automatic network acceptance. The application review also considers network adequacy, business objectives and provider qualifications. Printed page 9 asks providers to authorize access to a CAQH profile with an attestation within the preceding 180 days.
Arizona: does an LAC license satisfy that standard?
No, not for the independent-practice requirement described here. Arizona Revised Statutes §32-3303(B) requires LAC practice under direct supervision. A valid associate license therefore should not be presented as the independent LPC category named in Verda’s credentialing list. That comparison concerns this Arizona credential and this enrollment policy; the manual does not provide a license-by-license supervised-therapy approval table.
Texas: can a therapist who requires supervision enroll individually?
Not under the independent-practice standard in the manual linked by Verda Health Plan of Texas. The policy lists LPC, LCSW, LMFT and clinical psychologist as examples, but the clinician must meet the stated requirement to practice independently without direction or supervision. A counselor’s associate designation should not be treated as the listed LPC credential merely because both involve counseling.
This is Verda’s individual enrollment criterion, not a conclusion about every Texas license or setting. The policy does not supply an associate-specific psychotherapy payment pathway, a student exception or permission to use a supervisor’s rendering NPI. Texas practice requirements and the clinician’s actual qualifications remain separate from Verda’s acceptance of an application.
Can an associate bill through a supervisor or facility instead?
The reviewed provisions do not establish that alternative. Printed page 10 describes a separate facility credentialing process at the tax-identification-number level. Facility enrollment alone does not prove that a particular associate, service or psychotherapy code is payable. The public provisions reviewed here also do not establish a student or unlicensed-graduate therapy pathway. Those questions remain unresolved rather than automatically approved or denied.
Printed page 17 addresses identification of rendering, referring, attending and supervising providers by NPI on electronic claims. It is not an instruction to replace an associate’s identity with a supervisor’s rendering NPI. No associate-specific rendering-NPI substitution or modifier recipe is established by these passages.
Which Verda products does this answer cover?
This answer concerns the Medicare Advantage provider framework linked by Verda Health Plan of Arizona and Verda Health Plan of Texas. It does not transfer the rule to unrelated commercial or Medicaid plans, or establish original Medicare incident-to billing permission. The individual clinician’s participation, applicable service agreement, member benefit and service requirements still govern a particular claim.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an Arizona LAC enroll independently with Verda?
The reviewed credentialing standard requires independent practice, while Arizona requires LACs to practice under supervision. An LAC therefore does not satisfy that stated independent-practice requirement.
Can a Texas therapist who requires supervision enroll individually with Verda?
Verda Health Plan of Texas links a manual requiring independent practice for individual credentialing. A therapist whose practice requires direction or supervision does not satisfy that stated criterion. The manual does not settle alternative supervised-service reimbursement.
Does Verda list LPCs, LCSWs and LMFTs?
Yes. Its 2026 manual names those credentials as examples in individual credentialing. Listing does not guarantee network acceptance or payment for a particular service.
Does the manual authorize billing associate therapy under a supervisor’s NPI?
The reviewed passages do not establish that substitution. Individual credentialing, facility credentialing and claim-provider identification are separate questions.
Sources and review date
Reviewed October 30, 2026. Both state provider pages currently link the January 2026 manual. The analysis uses its credentialing provisions on printed pages 9–10 and NPI identification provision on printed page 17, together with Arizona’s LAC supervision statute. Appendix 1 on printed page 71 separately identifies the Arizona and Texas plans; it does not expand their credentialing or benefit rules. The enrollment conclusion is narrower than a decision about reimbursement for supervised psychotherapy.
