Blue Shield Provider Connection: Set Up Your Account and Approve Bomi

By Bomi editorial • October 27, 2026

If Bomi has asked you to approve Blue Shield of California access, start with your practice’s Provider Connection account manager. Creating or activating an account and approving Bomi’s billing-service request are separate steps. This guide covers Blue Shield of California, not Anthem Blue Cross of California.

Sections

1. Find your practice’s existing account manager

Before registering, check whether your practice already uses Provider Connection. The account manager handles billing-service access approvals. If you already have a user login, select the badge with your initials, then Manage my profile to locate your account manager. Ask that person to review the request rather than creating a duplicate account.

Open Blue Shield’s official Provider Connection website

If you have an account but cannot sign in, use the official password-recovery option. Keep your personal login with your practice; Bomi uses its own billing-service account.

2. Register only if your practice needs an account

Open Log In/Register on the official site, choose Create account, then Provider for the practice’s account. The person registering must be authorized to sign the legal declaration on behalf of the practice. Have the practice tax ID ready. Some registrations require details from a Blue Shield or Blue Shield Promise claim processed within the last three months: a check/EFT number, claim number or member ID, plus the check/EFT amount.

Follow the registration prompts for your organization and contact details, create your own username and password, review the terms and declaration, and complete email verification. Use Billing only when registering a billing service, not when establishing your practice’s provider account.

No recent claim? Blue Shield’s provider registration guide also lists verification using an eligible member’s subscriber ID and birth date, or the nine-digit contract ID. Enter any requested information directly into the payer’s secure registration form.

3. Review and approve Bomi’s access request

Blue Shield contacts the provider when a billing service requests access to its tax ID. Have the practice’s account manager follow that notification and review the pending request.

For the Bomi request you are expecting, check that the billing service and practice tax ID match the access you agreed to authorize. Complete the approval using Blue Shield’s current instructions. If the requester or practice does not look right, contact Bomi before approving.

Do not send Bomi your portal password or email verification code. You can approve our separate account without sharing yours. When finished, tell your Bomi contact that you approved the request and which practice it concerns; there is no need to include a full tax ID or patient details in an ordinary email.

What if the request is missing?

Ask Bomi to confirm that the request was submitted for the intended practice, then have your account manager check the payer notification and signed-in account-management area. An ordinary user account may not have the approval role. If the account manager still cannot locate the request, use the technical-support contact on Blue Shield’s official Help page.

Avoid starting another registration just because you cannot find a request. Give support the action you attempted and the error message, using its appropriate channel. Keep passwords, verification codes and patient information out of ordinary email and screenshots.

4. Let Bomi verify claims and remittance access

After approval, Bomi needs to confirm that its own account can access the intended practice and retrieve the relevant claim or payment information. An account-activation email by itself does not establish that this check has succeeded.

An explanation of benefits (EOB) or remittance explains how the payer processed a claim, including payment and adjustments. Blue Shield’s reference guide describes finding EOBs through Check claim status. Ask your Bomi contact to confirm the result of the access check before treating the setup as complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a new account if our office already has one?

Start with the existing practice account manager. Register only if the practice needs an account; an additional login is not a substitute for approving Bomi’s request.

Does verifying my email approve Bomi?

No. Email verification activates your account. The practice account manager must separately review the expected billing-service access request, and Bomi must then verify access.
