How Do I Request and Update Our BCBSIL Group Roster?
By Bomi editorial • October 26, 2026

For an existing BCBSIL commercial group, request the current roster, review it and return the complete file through the roster submission form. An Availity PDM demographic update alone does not satisfy Illinois quarterly verification. Adding a new clinician is a separate onboarding task.

Where are the roster request and submission forms?
Request your current BCBSIL roster
Submit the completed BCBSIL roster
Include your tax ID when requesting. BCBSIL asks for one request per 90 days and allows approximately four weeks to return the roster. That is the retrieval estimate, not a promise that changes or a new clinician will be approved in four weeks. Preserve the supplied columns and format when editing.
What should our practice check before returning the file?
Use the roster review as a reconciliation task. For example, a therapist may still work for your group but no longer see patients at its former office. A name-only review can miss that mismatch. Our suggested working checklist:
Compare each clinician and location against your current practice records. Investigate unexpected names and missing relationships before sending the file.
Ask the practice owner to resolve ambiguous departures, location changes or service information. Do not guess from an old scheduling list.
Keep a copy of the exact submitted file, the submission date, reference number and person responsible for follow-up.
Track “requested,” “received,” “submitted” and “confirmed” separately so a request receipt is not mistaken for a completed update.
Does every BCBSIL product use the same schedule?
Commercial groups verify every 90 days, even without changes. HMO medical groups/IPAs follow their monthly process. The quarterly requirement described here excludes Medicare Advantage and Blue Cross Community Health Plans; demographic changes still need reporting. Follow the Medicaid-specific instructions on the official page for that line of business.
Are we correcting the roster or adding a new therapist?
BCBSIL directs new clinicians joining a contracted group to its Provider Onboarding Form with a current CAQH application. Use that route rather than assuming a directory correction completes onboarding.
Give a new hire a separate tracking row from the quarterly roster review. Record what you asked BCBSIL to do, which practice identity and products it applies to, and the response you still need. This keeps an administrative deadline from turning into an unsupported start-of-billing date.
Adding a therapist to an existing group: the insurance checklist
What if we already submitted an update?
Before opening another request, look up the original reference and the file you sent. Write a specific follow-up: “Our October roster still lists the old location for this clinician; please confirm whether the submitted location change was processed.” Include only the identifiers the secure payer channel needs. This is more actionable than asking whether the entire group is “active.”
Need help managing insurance work as your group grows?
Bomi combines billing and credentialing support for therapy practices at 4% of net collections. Bring the payer, the clinician and the exact task you need help with to your consultation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does changing our address in Availity finish this task?
No. Track the demographic correction and the quarterly group verification as separate tasks.
Should we submit a second request while waiting?
Check the original reference and the current official instructions first. Repeated requests make it harder for your team to reconcile which file and response belong together.
